Thanks to everyone who answered my previous post.
I bought the carbon monoxide detector but on reading the instructions for siting it, there is literally nowhere we can put it to meet the requirements exactly!
We have a 30 year old sprite which is approx 14ft long... Windows all round and in the middle kitchen on one side, gas heater on the other.
In the end we gave up and placed it on the shelf over the end dinette, along with the smoke alarm.
Where do you put your detectors?
Mine is directly above the fridge. There's a gap-filler there that is the ideal size for my monitor.
I wouldn't have thought putting the monitor above the door would be the bet place, as CO is heavier than air. You could all be at risk before the alarm sounded.
"it should be as low as possible co heavier than air if too high co will get to you before the detector"
I don't agree. The molecular weight (MW) of carbon is 12.
The MW of oxygen is 16. Therefore the MW of CO is 12 plus 16 =28.
Air is 80% nitrogen, MW 14, Therefore N2 is 14x2=28. The O2 (oxygen) in air MW=16x2=32
So air is a bit more than 28. Therefore CO at 28 is lighter.
In practice, because of constant air movement they will be well mixed, so put the detector at roughly half way between head height when standing and head height when sleeping.
