OK have found that the van I recently purchased has a flooded style Numax leisure battery which I have fitted a solar charger to. This is because need to keep the battery topped up. in storage, as the van aint coming out of storage if the motor mover dont work! The question is though with this being a flooded type battery (so is maintainable and you can top up the fluid levels) as opposed to the more usual type of sealed battery, do I need to run a pipe from the vent tube on the side of the battery to outside of the van, or shall I just leave it to vent into the battery box? The box is far from "sealed" with wire going in and out plus the gap at the bottom for the ehu cable.......What would you do????
I have the sealed type, but wouldn't worry if I had the other. Just make sure connections are tight to eliminate any possible sparking. You will vent it each time you open the door to couple up mains cable.
