Really enjoyed our first holiday in our new old girl last week, am desperste to head out again but work commitments, school and buying a cheap banger that happilly tows her are unavoidable obstacles preventing another trip soon.
Our truck (a 2.5 Ford Maverick Petrol) which we used last week was gutless and struggled and in fact my 1.8 focus saloon towed her better the day we picked her up....money is extremely tight at the moment so it looks like we wont be taking her out again until next year Need another holiday!!!

Have a look at some of the Haven Sites for October, the ones fairly close to me are pricing around £40 for 3 nights. So could be a cheap get away.
We are using our focus 1.6tcdi and had no problems towing. Had to reduce speed somewhat on the climb out of conway back towards Liverpool but just tucked in behind a lorry doing a similar speed

Ace we have sold the Maverick and are looking to buy something else (we need two cars as partner works and uses a car and i need my car, the focus, to get the girls here, there & everywhere) people on here said that towing my caravan with our focus would be illegal which is why we sold my partners little van to buy the Maverick which turned out to be a crap towing car, complicated i know but thats just how life is panning out at the moment, the laden weight of the caravan is 1250 and i have no idea about the weights of my focus, cant find details anywhere in any paperwork but thats just one of the reasons we cant go again this year, like i said work and school get in the way grrr xxx

No worrys. Due to wife current work load we can only take long weekends which is fine but means not worth travelling to far. We have decided to join CC&C so looking at some of there near by sites for this weekend but alot are packed as its bank hols

Its a light van mind, 1250kgs, it shouldn't take a massive engine to pull it just need a car heavy enough. A Mondeo, vectra, a4, should be big enough. Diesel is better though as they have more torque for the hills.
We have just bought a VW Passat 1.9 SE TDI Estate...... fingers crossed someone on here will say something along the lines of 'Ahaaaaaaa yes!!!, that will pull it, no problem'.... (waits patiently)....

I'm getting 70+mpg on motorway runs in my Golf. It's a 2.0ltr Tdi GT Bluemotion model - careful right foot acheives this at average 70mph even with some traffic. Am getting 50+ around town and about 40 towing a 1250kg (fully laiden) van.
With careful driving it handles the van very well - much improved once I'd fitted a Winterhoff stabiliser - although I wouldn't want to go any heavier or bigger.
