We have a 1982 Musketeer, the manual says 4+1 but it's definitely a 4 berth, double dinette at each end. There are in fact 5 of us but the three little ones share a bed.
So what does the 4+1 mean?!

There is probably a bunk at one end. Sometimes its optional though so you may not have the parts.
My old 70's Musketeer had a double at each end and also a metal frame that made a single bunk to the rear.
Metal catches under the windows on both sides?

Ah, I see! Thank you.
There is nothing where a bunk bed could fit under windows so it mustnt have been in ours originally.
Although i am thinking of fitting one. Just need to find a bunk that fits!

The issue will be where will you bolt it to?
The original metal clips will have been attached to stronger load bearing wooden beams.
If they have weakened over the years or you miss them it could rip the wall panel down.
Tent in the awning maybe?

Our plus one was a hammock type thing that went over the double bed.

Hmm I know, needs some thought!
Ideally we will be able to look behind the wall panels to see if there are any supports there, need to get the engineer round to take a look at the heater which is playing silly buggers so I'll ask his advice.
Tent in the awning was another option but the dogs will be sleeping in there, feel a bit bad demoting the kuds to the dog shelf!
We can manage while kids are small, just trying to think ahead. Bought our old lady in June and already know I don't want to part with her, she is clean and dry and wears her years remarkably well.

We had a 1984 musketeer and we had a double bed at front and a long single bed lengthways that pulled out to make a double bed then the backrest lifted up to be a single bunkbed with the backrest being the mattress.

Top and tailing comes to mind. If the kids are small and the beds full length then could they not be put at both ends as we did as small kiddies. It was all just fun to us. Always put a foam block in the middle to stop all tootsies colliding its soft enough to not hurt ones feet.

Julie
Nothing like that in ours, sadly!
Chrissie
They are topping and tailing atm but at 6 1/2, almost 8 and 9 1/2 I can't see it lasting past next year. Just trying to think ahead, it may end up being a tent in the awning after all!

I must admit we did take out the chest of drawers and have some cusions made to make it into a bigger seating and sleeping area..I remember when my children were little we put up a small tent in the awning...they loved it...I hope you find a way around it without the exspense of having to change the caravan

Oh we will, this van is going nowhere!
Love it to bits, very nostalgic for me with all the brown and orange and what I am pretty sure is the original awning to match!
Will get some decent pics on eventually, rather than the ones taken in the dark that are on here atm!
