Looking to buy my first caravan been to both dealers and would like to know if anyone has ever purchased a caravan, as in what was the service like and after sales customer care like, plus are there prices over priced or cheap, any comments would be helpful.

At glossop the salesman knocked off £2500 from the sale price of a challenger sport 554 new price would be if I did a deal today for £15,000. But to much for my first caravan but was it a good deal ?

Glossops no way ever, we had a great trade in and new Elddis experience with Campbell's. however, if we could have bought an elddis from leisure sales and they do sell Swift, we would have bought from them again in a heartbeat. We had our Lunar under warranty with them and for 3 years they were brilliant, we had minor niggles and they sorted everything out under warranty and we never parted with a penny. Their sales team could work harder at actually selling but their after sales is second to none couldn't recommend them enough to anyone!

Bought our caravan from Glossop. Gave a good price for our trade in and we thought they might want to negotiate when we took it in, but they were excellent. The deal was exactly as was agreed. No problems with the caravan.
In my opinion, nothing wrong with glossops at all.

Just make sure you check your caravan thoroughly yourself when collecting wether new or used.

Greetings,

For what it's worth there are a a few dealers at the mo. who are knocking shedloads of money off new vans prior to the 2014 date of 1st Sept.

I get the feeling that there has been overcapacity in the manufacturing of these this year and they are scrabbling to unload with big discounts.

My experience was exactly the same as stephenn280575

I have had nothing but excellent service from Glossops and would have no hesitation in recommending them.

Be very careful with Glossop caravans, there are many many posts on here from people who have had problems with them. I live within 5 miles of them and wouldn't dream of giving them any of my hard earned cash, and if you read through the other threads you'll see why. We bought from a smaller, friendlier and cheaper dealer instead.

I had a Caravan from Cambells a couple of years ago, and was given a 2 night stay near them free. Would I go back to them definitely not. I won't go into all of the reasons as this post would be deleted. One of the better reasons is Vat went up to 20%. They told me the difference would be over £400 I told them that it should be just over £200, the salesman said he didn't work it out and would get it checked. When he came back he agreed with me, then asked me how I worked it out I told him I didn't but a taxman did. We took the Caravan for our free nights and found that the curtain end stoppers were not on and the curtains came off. I went back to Campbell's and they said to go to the service place about 11/2 miles away to get them.
I won't go into anymore details but there were a few more problems.

would never buy from any of them.
they expect to make a good £4-5000 on every transaction.

we went to bawtry caravans for something for our caravan and they wanted to give us a price for our caravan against another fixed bedder.

compass 2008 fixed bed 4 berth and they said they'd do us a favour and give us £5.500.
our caravan had nearly halved in price in just over 12 months.
what a joke.

as long as you are careful and take someone who knows what they are doing with you are always better buying private.

Never been to Glossops so can't comment on them.
We bought our caravan from Cambells last year and its been fine. one slight thing it was serviced before we picked it up and they did give us 2 nights stay on a camp-site, and they also new we had to tow it 350 miles back home. but they did NOT tell me the TYRES were TEN years old. I only found out when one of the antique tyres blow out on the M5

There is plenty of post ,good and bad about both dealers. Like there will be for any dealer. I for one have a brand new 2013 Elddis Avante on my drive. I can assure you if it was not for the sales manager from Glossops at the NEC last year we would not own it. We spent all day trying to get a deal done for the money I had,and no one came anywhere near Glossop. He ran back and forward to Elddis and got us are dream van for the money I had.from pick up to now they have been Excellent.
