We have acquired a caravan and are wishing to put in a CO detector as we have never had experience of gas heating before. Where is the best place to put the detectors?

If CO is heavier than air, then it would seem sensible to place it low, near the outlet of the appliance.

Combined smoke/CO detectors seem to be placed on ceilings.

Anyone got the official information on siting?

(Never had this problem in the trailer tent!!)

ours is situated above the refrigerator on the wall by side of kitchen window .it was already there when we purchased our new van

CO is fractionally lighter than air, although there is not much in it.

Personally I'd be inclined to place it near to where I sleep.

Our 'van has one fitted as standard and its above the door with the smoke alarm next to it.

Thanks for that...up high with smoke alarm.

We always have windows open when sleeping, even at home, so probably will survive anyway.

BEST place for it its at head height, but in reality its not usually practical.

Usual advice is away from draughts, as this may give a false "low" and prevent the unit from operating.
Mines next to the smoke alarm, on the side of the wardrobe.

Get a portable one and place on cabinet near where you sleep or sit. Bought one on Amazon and take when we go to villas/gites etc

Instructions for my new one are as follows,place at eye level,at least two metres away from any gas appliance,and away from doors and windows,placed mine on the wall in the sleeping area,

I placed mine on the little shelf above the work surface opposite the cooker and the fridge. It is above the gas fire but not directly above.

We might struggle getting it 2 meters away from any gas appliances in are van

Our Lunar Lexon has it factory fitted underneath the front lockers. The only problem is, when I'm laying in bed at night (nearest the window)the green LED flashes every 60 seconds to show it is operating OK. In the dark, its like a blinding green flash that I can detect, even with my eyes closed, as laying on my back I'm looking straight up at it! I couldn't get to sleep, so I covered the LED with some grey duct tape, just enough so you can see the LED is working, without being bright enough to keep me awake. Anybody else had this problem?
