Bought my Adria Action in June last year so have had it just over a year. It's a 2010 model tho' was first reg late 09. Just had it back from service and the engineer reports that my spare wheel is of a different size to the two road wheels. This is somewhat concerning as over the last year it's been on tour to New Forest, West Sussex, over both the Brecon Beacons and the Cambrian Mountains as well as a couple of trips to Norfolk ant the East Midlands, all this without the correct spare. Turns out that the spare is a 13" rim whereas the road wheels are 14" and should I have had to use it, not only would it have been a bit lopsided but, I believe, illegal. Have just put it in the back of the car with a view to paying the dealer a visit tomorrow. Desperately need a spare as off to Wales again in a fortnight. Knowing the dealer I've a feeling that he isn't going to want to know, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
The term "Fit for purpose" springs to mind. On top of this my engineer report that the spare is 6 years old and needs replacing, how can a 4 year old van have a 6 year old tyre ? It's obviously not the original so will keep you posted on the result of tomorrows visit...Mick
have you checked that besides the rim being a different size the tyre sidewalls are not bigger thus making the wheel the same size?
ie you can have one 13 inch rim and one 14 inch rim with different wall sizes that both give the exact same size wheel in use? the size of the rim doesnt matter its the diameter of the overall wheel and tyre that matters
many cars with alloy wheels will have a spare steel wheel and many of them are an inch or 2 smaller rim size but overall the same size if you know what i mean after all its a spare to get you home its not intended as a permanent replacement
Hi Dave, no, it's in board under one of the beds with alternative access via exterior side hatch. It hasn,t been nicked/swapped as is still brand new never been on the road and the van is parked at home!....Mick
Panic over and tku easyt you were quite right. Having got out my tape measure I find the diameter of the complete wheel does in fact match. The smaller rim compensated by the larger profile tyre. Must have a look at the car spare, that is also a steel rim where the road wheels are alloys. tks again .....Mick
