Bought a red 'flammable gas' warning sticker today for our van.
It may or may not be a legal requirement but feel compelled to put one on, just in case.
Have I bought the right sticker though?! I think the gas in the cylinder is butane, should I have an LPG sticker or is the one I have bought okay?... Sorry I know I might be seeming a bit dim. :)

I have same type of sticker and was told by mobile engineer it was requirement to have one displayed

I don't think it matters a jot what type of sticker it is so long as it does what it's supposed to do and warns the 'Services' of it's presence.

In the same light, if you should ever find yourself on the road WITHOUT a bottle (and I can't think of many occasions when that would happen) it makes sense, well it does to me anyway, to put a piece of red insulating tape across the sign as an indication that it ain't there.

If the gas is Butane it will be in a blue cylinder, Propane is contained in a red cylinder. Any inflammable liquids being transported should have a permanent sticker displayed the same as lorries carrying explosive or corrosive liquids mainly for the attention of the fire brigade in case of an emergency so they know what type of extinguisher to use or what specific fumes need to be contained. Lorries have to display the appropriate stickers by law but not sure about caravans but I removed my old tatty diamond sticker anyway and replaced with a new one which is the correct one you have.

There is no law requiring private vehicles to display an LPG sticker,the emergency services will expect there to be a gas cylinder present if a caravan or motorhome is involved.

but by law you can only carry 20 litres for personal use
without having a adr license

Correct, no need for a caravan, if your involved in an accident, the services aint stupid, they know that there's going to be LPG involved somewhere.

not 100% but dont think there's a requirement for LPG powered cars to carry one either, definitely never seen one on a dual fuel.

Hello Lisa

In the UK vehicles being used for work purposes have to show stickers indicating the vehicle is carrying compressed gas. If the vehicle is not being used for work, i.e. a camper van, you do NOT have to show the stickers.

However, it is considered good practice to have the stickers if you are carrying compressed gas. The fire brigade find great benefit in seeing the sticker if there should be a road accident, as it helps them contain the incident more quickly. But, only show the sticker when you are carrying gas, otherwise the fire brigade will be miss lead. A flammable gas warning diamond will suffice
