You might have to add an additional wooden rail so that they don't fall out.
Our abi daystar was the same, I just took my time making sure I was pushing or pulling from the centre.

Do they push in and pull out smoothly? If not maybe a bit of furniture wax or even candle wax rubbed into the runners to help lubricate them.

I think this happens on most vans. Certainly has on the vans we have had. The trick is to just take your time and keep them straight. Only takes a few seconds longer, but saves the hassle of trying to get them back on.

We have given up on ours and OH has made a hardwood panel that sits where the slats go instead. We were fed up with the bed collapsing!
------------- It's summer again, caravan time! Hurrah!

Just sold on the 'offending' model van very recently. I found if you pull the slats out uniformly, and push them back the same way, they stayed on the rails. But, some of the bench seats seem to be over-wide apart, which meant the rails could still drop out as the gaps either side of the slats were too generous. The only way of curing this, apart from fitting longer slats, is to glue a fillet of timber - maybe 15 x 5mm, inside each runner to reduce the span.
