hi Guys,
just come back from our annual holiday.
after coming back through the night and arriving at 2.30 in the morning we decided it was just as easy to stay in the van as the beds were already made up. In the morning after getting up I have dropped the double step and chipped the paint work on the caravan on the sil.
is this something I can get a touch up stick and do or does it need a proper job. paint chip is probably about the size of a five pence piece.
second question, every time I tow the van I keep having to rescrew a couple of the screws back into the oven housing.
any suggestions and is this common?
third question whilst cleaning the van today I have noticed that where the waste water pipes from the sink in the bathroom are that go through the floor to the outlet, there seems to be quite a larger hole than I would expect so for example say if the waste pipe is 30mm in diameter (am im guessing this) the actual hole drilled is probably 34mm - is this normal, I appreciate the hole has to be bigger but there are no seals or anything which means that sure this would cause damp issues?
I welcome your thoughts on this also.
4th question my water pump has on a couple of occasions started to pump without anyone using the taps.fortunetly plenty of water in the water but, it only stays on for literally a couple of seconds and then goes off, one thing I did notice which has not happened before when I disconnected the pump from the van there was some water about when I pulled the pump off
sorry for all the questions but still in the 6 months of caravanning.
the van is a new(2013) swift ace courier
To answer in brief;
1) You can repair the gel coat if its that that you have scratched with a kit. A pic is best.
2) Things do move with vibration and sometimes unscrew. Screw back in with a small blob of silicone sealant.
3) Most things through the floor are larger than the pipe dia; as its doesnt get wet there in the main, grommets are not required. It actually helps with venting. You can seal them up if you feel draughts everywhere, although things like the oven and heater need vent area through the floor.
4) This could be just the newness wearing off the pressure switch, so try tweaking till it stops, as per owners manual. Dont understand what you mean with water still about, sorry.

thank you for your reply
pictures could be a struggle for me but its gone down to the metal, what do you mean by Gel coat?
will try the silicone
3 ok thanks, that puts my mind at rest. no issues with the draft just more concerned re the damp but now happy
4 ok will look at the manual as I say only happened a couple of times so far but who knows when we are away from the van.
each time I have disconnected the pump from the van I have never seen any water in the housing when pulling off this time there was an amount of water, nothing massive but as never seen the water before hence the question
Gel coat is commonly the coating on top of the metal; some vans are gel coat onto aluminium; others are primed, painted & lacquered. If its down to the metal, may be a more involving repair.
Its probably the pump keeping up the pressure in the pipes. As I say, may need a bit of adjusting.
I dont know about the pump; mine drains out when unplugged?

Gel coat is not the coating on top of metal. Gel coat is the final "finish" on fibreglass. i.e. the shiny surface.
it appears not to be on a fibreglass part of the van - invariably the front or rear panel so I guess your paint finish on the metal parts is chipped. I am sure you can get a touch up stick. Try your dealer if it is the side panel of the van. A spray tin will do. Just spray into the plastic top of the can to create a small puddle of paint then use a small artist brush to touch it up.
I wouldn't advise spraying directly onto your chip. You will make a mess of it.
4. If your pump is a Whale and your manual doesn't have clear instructions about adjusting the pressure switch then this link might help Whale Pressure Switch
Best to set the switch when connected to EHU because the battery voltage will be at about 13.6v (float charge) rather than the normal 12.8v
