So.... we bought the caravan in July, towed it back with my 1.8 petrol Focus, then the partner bought a 2.5 petrol maverick which we towed our van with when we went away in it last month... towed rubbish so sold it to buy a VW Passat diesel, only to find that the MOT ran oit last year!!! the personal plates on it would take weeks to change back to normal and couldnt be done without an mot so we sold it to a dealer who sold us an astra.... without a towbar and only a 1.6 petrol anyway.... so we are now left wioth a useless astra, my focus, no money, a caravan on the drive and a very upset, miserable and becoming increasingly angry ME!
Insurance company are probably getting rather irritated with me too....its all going wrong and im so upset....

I don't really understand your op, did you not know the Passat had no mot when you bought it? If it had been off the road for since last yr it must have been Sorn'ed, yes?
We bought the passat off of a private seller who seemed very lovely & genuine and so i (stupidly) assumed that he was telling the truth when he said it was still MOT'd for a few months yet but he had sent the cert off along with other details needed to change the number plate back.... i am too trusting in people, always have been.
Wasnt until we went to check online to see where it was last MOT'd so we could buy a duplicate that we found out it ran out last year.... i am so annoyed, although, to be frank, the insurance on it was monstrous so i suppose it was a blessing in disguise................
Thanks all, and i will certainly think about buying a Mondea, it will need to be a cheapy though x

Any 2.0L turbo diesel will pull a caravan, just look for a family size diesel car.
Don't forget to check the cars weight, towing weight, rear axle weight and your caravans weight.
E.g my Laguna 1.8 petrol auto is only allowed to tow a trailer up to 700kgs, no good for a caravan.
Your caravan idealy alshouldnt be more than 85% of the cars total weight.
Every car has a maximum rear axle load weight, find it and then add your caravans nose weight, your luggage weight and passenger weight, make sure you don't exceed the max weight as this would be very dangerous.
hi saz, sry about your troubles, we,v had to change our car only had it 3 weeks, will be towing with it tomorrow first time, found it on gumtree and pure luck the owner lived in our village and it had a towbar on it, keep your chin up, your luck could change like ours did.
best wishes angie.
------------- caravanning wish we,d started sooner.
JUST LOVE IT.
...............so he goes off in the useless Astra and comes home with.........an MG MGF 1.8I VVC....... hmmmm its up for sale already!
End of my tether is where i'm at!
Laughing about it else i'd cry.
I wonder what we will have next.............hopefully someone will want to swap a bigger car with a bigger engine and a towbar for this sporty little number..... :-)
