As age creeps up and being disabled. My wife and I have had to give up our much loved tourer and were looking around at the Bailey Willow Retreat. As I have a Motability vehicle now which is incapable of moving our twin axle Swift from our seasonal pitch in Cornwall. We needed a professional person/company to move the Swift.
We eventually found a dealer who was realistic with his price and struck a deal that was too good to miss.
I got in touch with a guy who had twenty odd years of doing just what we needed, so we asked when he could move our van that was just 10 miles away from his home. He agreed and fixed the date 1st September and also gave me a price all good so far. We purchased the Willow and agreed that the P X would be with the Dealer in Warwick on the same day, This was the deal maker.
Late Saturday afternoon we got a text from the transport gentleman saying "that he had been stuck in traffic all day it is chaos in Cornwall" In my opinion knowing the West Country the last weekend of the summer holidays just after a bank holiday this was stating the obvious. So he asked if he could pick up the van earlier and I replied "what time" he came back and said 6am. Anyone with half a brain knows no site allows caravan movement that early. Let alone someone with twenty years in the job. So he cancelled .So as I could not get anyone else in the time frame. The dealer cancelled the deal costing us £1000 deposit. The transporter booked for Monday to move the Willow charged me any way as I had broken the contract and now the Swift caravan will have to go into storage until we can set up another deal.
So if you are on E-bay looking for a "Professional Caravan Relocation Company" and the location is Liskeard ...Reread this and think can I afford to take the chance....You have been warned...
All the sites we have used mainly Caravan Club and Caravan and Camping Club and lately Eden Valley in Cornwall over the last 40 odd years would not allow caravan movements at this time in the morning. I feel pretty sure if I was next to either of you guy's you would have been really impressed if I had packed up and gone off site at 6am.
I would have thought if you had phoned the site & explained the situation I doubt they would have objected, was there even a barrier? Too bad if it disturbed folks, your consideration for others seems to have cost you an awful lot of money.
The seasonal site we are going to next year is a caravan club site and you would be surprise ( If you explained what was wrong i think they would have help you even at 6 am )
But some sites do have rules ??
The Eden Valley Site's Security barrier is inoperable at 6am. Its all part of the security.
We were in the caravan on Saturday night as we had nowhere else to sleep, so it would have been bedding, winding up steadies, etc
At the age of 67 probably Iam too considerate for my own good , but a lifetime of considering other people's peace and quiet has cost me a lot of money. Leopard and spots come to mind. Thanks anyway guy's for your comments
The situation here is that you only assumed that the site would not allow movement at 6am. but failed to bother to do anything constructive like physically ask and explain your dilemma first. I am sure that under the circumstances the site would have made provisions on this occassion as this would have only been a 'one off' collection and not going to happen on a regular basis. If you put yourself in the situation of the dealer then I'm sure you will agree that you would have done the same. Running an efficient business has to go hand in hand with the customer which didn't materialise so in reflection of this the dealer was quite right to cancel.
