Hello Folks
We are thinking of upgrading from a tent to caravan. While trying to justify it to ourselves why we need a caravan for a maximum of three weeks of the year, was wondering how often other folks use theirs. Our use will be, an annual two week holiday to the Alps/Dolomites/Austria regions, towed from the Scottish Borders along with perhaps one other additional week locally around Easter.
What does everyone else do.
Thanks
Sheila

A long weekend to local(ish) counties every month, 2 weeks to Scotland in May, 2 weeks to Southern England (Dorset, Devon or Cornwall) in September, 2 weeks to Edinburgh over Christmas & Hogmanay.
Anytime of year, you cannot beat being away in the caravan!!!

been there, got the caravan!
we spend between 30 and 40 nights a year in the caravan.
we found that we do much more in the caravan than we did under canvas as we now have more option to do a quick weekend here and there.
plus we no longer do a full 2 weeks in one location and stay no more than 5 nights in one place as its so much easier to pitch and strike camp.
its not all about the money. if you can afford it then thats the first step...but it gives you so much more flexibility...less setting up time and more beer time!

In the past 4 months I've had 41 nights away, with another 23 planned this year.

Gosh, you lucky people. Other half works 5 and half days a week, so getting away for the frequent weekend here and there, other than his planned holidays realistically probably wont work for us. Very envious of you all.

Feel the same, Sheila. My OH has worked such long hours this summer. Kids are starting to go back to school and save for 5 days in Cornwall in the tent we haven't seen that much of him. Admittedly he has a massive deadline in the next few months but it's really been the big push for me to say Let's do this thing! And to my surprise, he has stopped saying no and visited a few dealers with me. Not sure when it will happen but I'm optimistic. I understand that envy x

Getting away for weekends is easy; keep the majority of required kit in the caravan, only wash what needs to be washed, and take the bare minimum with you.
Having caravan specific kit that is left in the van helps sooo much; without a valet, it takes me 2 hours to pack the van & hitch to car.
We do the food shopping online to arrive the night before we set off.
After a few times, it just becomes like a well oiled machine.

We have school age children and moved from a tt to a caravan 2 years ago. We have done just over 30 days each year. The beauty for us is that we would not have gone in tt before Whitsun as I feel the cold, but now we can go away at Easter and right up to Oct half term. We both agree that the caravan is the best thing we have ever bought.

We also changed over from FC to caravan this year purely so we could use it easier more year round. Only change din May but probably will do about 30 nights this year and maybe 40-50 next year with a couple of trips being planned to Europe-land again ;)
