Oh wow! there are some lucky people on here!... We have school age children, my partner works Mon-Fri and i work Tue-Sat... getting time off to go away in our old girl is difficult, we have only been away for 7 nights so far this year (3 in our TT at Easter, 4 in our 'new to us' caravan last month) and am really hoping we can squeeze in another 4 nighter in the October half-term, i loved being away in the caravan last month and i cant wait to go again, kinda looking forward to when the youngest is old enough to leave at home while i trundle off for a week,or has left school so she can come with us (she's currently 6!, a few years to wait yet), so that'll be one less obstacle, enjoy it as much as you can! x

We try to get away at least one long weekend a month EVERY month our favourite months for a week or two week break are March - June and Sept - Nov...as you guessed we have no children and semi-retired. We love winter caravaning, it takes a lot to stop us - although snow storms did cause one cancellation this year! We couldn't do it under canvas, as much as we enjoyed that. Never looked back, we love our caravan.

It can be frustrating waiting around for school holidays. Our youngest just started reception yesterday and the eldest is 9. We have taken him out of school for a couple of long weekends earlier on in school but I probably won't do it again now he's a bit bigger. It's a shame because getting away for a weekend with the family really does broaden their horizons a little. They learn so much.

We usually manage about 7 weeks a year. We both work full time and have a 12 year old so have to work round school holidays etc. I have to work nights and weekends and will often organise a trip in the caravan to a fairly local site and go to work from there at a weekend. If we didn't do that our trips would be much reduced. We also had a trailer tent before and now go away all year round. We have never regretted changing but you must make sure you can use it   It is too expensive a hobby not to get the maximum you can from it.
Good luck in whatever you decide.
Alison
