we went to the lawns caravan show on Saturday. this is the first show we have ever been to and sorry to say the last. Smile at a salesman and they think you are buying. Trying to buy food a nightmare queues just too long good job we took a pack up. In the ad for the show said would be well sign posted first one we came a cross was half a mile for show. no sign near the A63 coming into Hull It 50 years since I had been to Hull so memory was a little rusty on the way round Hull. well we did find it but like I said never again. malc
I went 5 years ago and got a cracking deal on the van i have now, Would deffo go again but cant afford a new van now & i dont think i would buy another new one now
If you want to look at touring caravans at a show, go to the big indoor shows (NEC, etc) - they are set up as public shows and have a much wider range of tourers on display. The Lawns is really the trade show for the static caravan manufacturers (which is why it is where it is - Hull and East Yorkshire are the centre of the static universe!), and as a static owner I love it! But it's very limited for tourers, and as it's set up as a trade show rather than a public show, catering is limited (on the trade days, the manufacturers feed and water those visiting in a effort to open their wallets!!).
Don't let The Lawns put you off going to the big indoor shows - they are completely different animals.
thanks for the replies to my posting it's going to take some convincing to get OH to another show. yes it would have been very bad with a wheel chair. malc
Malc - the NEC is soooooo much different to The Lawns! Loads of touring caravans, motor homes, some folding campers, lots (and I mean LOTS) of accessories and other stalls selling stuff you didn't know you needed until you saw it! Plus plenty of opportunites to get food (it IS the NEC, after all - lots of food and drink outlets, although some think they are a little pricey) and even chance to sit down! And all under cover with proper floors! It's a much more public-friendly show.
We went and thoroughly enjoyed the day out. Lovely weather and pleasant surroundings and lots to LOOK at.
My OH was looking at the interiors of vans to get ideas on re-covering the upholstery and came away with some good ideas. The only things we bought were loo stuff and some "unbreakable" wine glasses, so we can throw away the old ones. We'll be going again next year too.
------------- Some days you are the dog,
some days you are the tree.
We spotted a load of new compass caravans heading south down the M1 on Thursday, two on each trailer and one being towed behind each, they looked like they may have been heading down for a show somewhere. They were very similar in body shape to our new Elddis, with identical rear light clusters and back panel, but what made them stick out was there Purple graphics, not a colour usually associated with external caravan decals.
