Afternoon all, My hand break is quite hard to apply on the van "Compared to say a car" is this normal as its hold van all ok just sometimes takes a extra pull to make sure it wont go anywere.
You will need to pull handbrake on harder to prevent it rolling backwards than forward due to the nature of caravan brakes, yes it does need a good yank, somewhat harder than a car.

It should pull vertical to stop the auto reverse disengaging and risk it rolling backwards. Most of the time thats not needed though.
You need to jack it up both sides at the same time. Put the handbrake on 1 click at a time and make sure its not binding or working on one side more than the other.
If it does the brakes need a clean/inspection or service.
Yeah it pulls almost vertical from memory HAHA and hold van no probs just needs a good tug "No pun intended" just wanted to make sure was normal, Not had any probs with breaks while out and about while touring either, Gonne give the breaks a service in decemeber anyways just incase as looking at a few weeks away in jan/feb so with the crap weather were gonna get need to make sure all is ok especially with kids in car,
have found this interesting as we always used to pull the handbreak vertical, but on the last service, the service chap told us they do not need to be vertical and it only stretches the handbreak cable and creates a issue that it could smash through the A frame.
this year we have done as we have been told and not applied the handbreak to a fully vertical position and our van hasn't rolled away while we've been sleeping .
so which way is correct???
opinions??
thanks

If you are sited on reasonably level ground, then once steadies are down & wheels chocked in whatever direction of what might be slightly downhill release handbrake & leave off. Works for me & avoids stressing cable, I mainly use handbrake while hitching/unhitching. I try to leave it off at all other times when caravan is parked if slope is not too steep
If I get some help to pitch, I always have to ask whoever put the handbrake on to take it off again and let me do it myself.. being a diminutive 5ft girly, I can't get the handbrake off if it's on too tightly! So I do it myself, and as others have said, once chocks are on and legs down, it has never moved.
