I've been to look at a caravan which I really liked, so I'm going back to have another look at it on Thursday in order to have a better look/ dig around, just want to make sure I really know what i'm buying.
Its my first van, tented it for about 3 years and have done this summer -(dog agility shows) in a friends, so I have a few questions if that's ok.
The current owners have only had it a few months, they've decided its not big enough. Its still cris registered under the previous owners, what should I do?
Its missing the cover for the water point (not good at proper names yet) can you get replacement ones?
Also how does one go about paying for a caravan nowadays, I'm not comfortable carrying a large amount of cash! Is it recommended to do a proper receipt etc. Its a private sale.
My plan is to look again Thursday and let the owner know my decision before the weekend.
Thanks
Should be taking a damp meter with me as long as it comes in time.
I think I would want to see the receipt that they would have from the purchase of the van, if they have had it only a few months. Just for peace of mind. Seems strange that they didn't send the Cris document off. Most people do it straight away.
It will probably be legit, but worth asking to see it.

You need to do a Cris check yourself to check caravan has not been stolen at some time its life even if current owners bought in good faith. You need the numbers etched into the windows & check on Cris website, you have pay for the check.
It it checks out ok then one way to pay is with bank transfer your bank to seller's bank going together with seller to bank but you need to complete the deal in bank opening hours obviously.
We paid for our last one by using Fastpay - we had our Building Society app on our mobile phone, did a test payment of ten pounds the previous day to make sure we had the details all correct, then transferred the money straight across and the seller could see it arrive safely in his account. It's what our Building Society recommended.
Quote: How long does it take to update the cris register?
I'm not sure how quickly it's updated on the system, but it took around six weeks for our Cris registration form to be returned to us when we bought our current van. The seller should send off one part and the buyer the other.
Might it be worth giving Cris a ring before you go see the van and asking what info they need?
And yes, on most modern vans the external covers are easy to replace - if you're in any doubt, phone your local caravan dealership and ask if they keep such an item in stock for your caravan.
"The current owners have only had it a few months, they've decided its not big enough. Its still cris registered under the previous owners, what should I do?"....
"I was planning to do a cris check, but from what I can tell I need to know the registered keeper myself, they won't actually tell me."....
"they" - do you mean cris or the current owners? Did the current owners buy it from a dealer or from the previous owners - if from the previous owners, the current owners should know - and tell - the details of those previous owners, so that you can check with cris.
Otherwise, it sounds a little odd.....

Nothing dodgy about not having it registered in their name yet. They probably just didnt get round to it. I'm yet to fill mine out even though I've had it nearly 4wks. I cast an eye over it in the kitchen & think ooh yes must get on & do that, then later on comes & I'm still busy with the kids/tidying around. It's only taken a roughly week in the past to be registered in my name.
We've still to register ours and we bought it in April. Reason we have not got round to it yet is we were also supposed to be moving move all fell through. We packed it away safely and now can't remember what box it's in
thanks for your advice, I've been back to look at the van again armed with my dad (no caravan knowledge though), a damp meter and a friend with caravan knowledge.
Got to have a look at the service records which showed it did indeed have damp, damp meter went off scale and friend found the damp with their fingers. All in the same corner funnily enough stretching from top to bottom.
So the fact the cris register not up to date really wasn't a concern any more decision made to carry on looking made for me.
