Hi I am looking to buy my first proper caravan, what I mean by that is that I bought a cheap one a few years ago as a project.
But I want to buy one now to just use as I don't have time to work on one,but I seem to be reading a lot about them suffering from damp, even ones that seem only a few years old,I looked at one a couple of days ago a 2000 elddis was in fantastic condition apart from 1 corner which had severe damp my damp meter went of the scale, and wall was very soft. Is this something that I am going to have to accept for caravans around that age?
We have just bought our first Van,a 1997 Elddis Crown Sovereign which is in fantastic condition for its age, we are really pleased with it, no damp so yes there are some dry vans out there

Keep searching you will find one eventually! Took us over 6 months of viewings an disappoontments however it was worth it as we stumbled accross a 1999 abbey vogue, excellent condition 1 owner from new who were an elderly couple who were packing in due to ill health. The van came with everything, 2 awnings all equipment like aqua rolls hook up lead etc even the cutlery in the draws! That was 2 years ago as she is still a cracker an still no damp!
hi, keep looking just like rob bought ours off a older couple she is a 1994 abbey, 1 owner dry as a bone with everything in her from cutlery to awning + more and a moter mover well loved by previous owners and us.we were lucky found her on 3rd look out and bought her there and then, so keep looking you will find one when you least expect it, good luck.
------------- caravanning wish we,d started sooner.
JUST LOVE IT.
This summer we bought a 1997 Bailey Ranger 470/4 for 3000 quid.
It has a wee bit of damp above the door but nothing that a dehumidifier won't sort out.
I will be doing a bit of work on it but that is just because I am retired and it keeps me away from doing housework and the garden! But really just to transform it into a van better suited to what we want.
It came complete with everything because the last owner was giving up caravanning.
If you have the cash and are prepared to wait for the right unit for you, then something will come along.
Iam sure there will be one out there in your price range, we paid £3000 for ours, keep hunting an let us know what you find. Dont forget there is a wealth of knowledge on here to answer any questions, it was the great people on here who i got advice from as we were totally new to caravaning an i have to say it was the best thing we did, 2 years on an we have had some great times with the kids.
