Can anyone help? i have a 1990 Fleetwood colchester 1500-5es, on the control panel above the wardrobe the battery indicator light soon goes red (like after 6 or 8 hours) and the low voltage light on the water heater comes on, i have had a new battery and had it checked and a new charger,

as soon as you hook up or put generator on it goes back to green and chargers ok

i have checked for anything draining it, and nothing seems to be

i dont have instructions for panel and wonder do i have a switch wrong

the charger shows the battery is charged and i have also tried different chargers

Your van is fairly old and electrics may be different to modern vans. For example, are you running the fridge off gas or can it operate off the battery? I know some old vans can and that would drain it pdq I think.
If you try on and off appliances while watching the gauge (or if you don't have one watch the power dip on the 12v lights)
and you should see what is taking most power.

Have you got a charger switch somewhere near the PSU that is switched off?

Sounds like the battery isn't getting a charge.

We had an off moment last weekend, where our battery quickly died and left us with no lights, even though we were on electric hook-up. Turned out to be the charger fuse had blown.

battery is fully charged when i leave because i've charged it on two separate chargers, dont know if the battery is still fully charged and the panel display is showing wrong but would that cause the water heater to stop working,  do the little floresant tubes take alot when running on 12v

I think the tubes use just under 1 Amp. LED replacements might help - Click Have you tried turning the water heater off - sounds like something has a fault causing high current drain - or the battery isn't holding its charge maybe?

yeah dont leave water heater on all time that runs on gas, checked for a current drain and tested battery umpteen times, there seems no consistancy to this problem, which of course makes it hard to find.
