Morning all, Looking at installing a player into van in the coming weeks and wanted a bit of advice.

I know the general basics but its the power supply that I'm trying to get head around, As far as I'm aware there is no accessory point in fuse board so going to make one so I can fuse any tips or help welcome.

On your SIG power control board, you probably have AUX1 & AUX2 switches; on my previous 1992 caravan, I wired the CD player into Aux 1 (nothing else was using it), for both the switched live & permanent live of the CD player, with a 10 amp fuse pre the switch.

Provided its fused properly & you use the right size & type of cable & connections & joints, you shouldnt do any damage.

Hope it goes OK.

Why not take a feed directly from the battery with a inline fuse. Same as a car.

I didnt because then neither me nor my wife could switch it off & isolate it from the power easily.

The car gives it two feeds; a permanent live, and a switched live from the ignition. I made both feeds onto the same switch.

I would have thought so; it was only an idea.

Having just had a chat with a pal, he discovered that the 12v twin plug switches dotted around the caravan were on the Aux 2 switch, so to save the wiring, he wired the stereo into the ring of small 12v sockets. No issues, as he didnt use them for anything else.

Maybe you could do that? I think they are fused at 10 Amp also.

Don't forget if you don't have the permanent live you loose all setting when you turn power off.

Do the 12v sockets turn off when you put the caravan switch to off then.

But it will keep starting at track 1 if it loses the memory of the last track played.

Not so bad with a standard CD, But with a CD full of MP3's with 200 songs its a chore.

You need the backup battery feed or perm live feed to go directly to a 12v source that stays on when you switch the radio off.

As mentioned on a car one feed goes directly to the battery and stays on and one goes to the ignition.

So when the ignition gets turned off there is still a tony amount of power going to save the memory.
