We have to collect our caravan on Saturday. It is quite a distance and was planning on a staying nearby on Saturday night. (Warwickshire to Yorkshire) This would mean travelling back on Sunday and current forecast is for average wind speeds of 20mph with up to 40mph gusts. The weather on Saturday is not as bad (gusts at 30mph). Never towed when windy and only have a years experience. There is no warning for saturday or Sunday (there is a warning for Monday). Who has towed in windy conditions? Are 40mph gusts a major risk for snaking and turn overs? What I have read so far is to go slow and go on A roads rather than motorways. Any other thoughts? What would you do - come back on Saturday or Sunday?
Hi, you will be ok. looking at the forecast there is a weather warning in the North West on Monday but that is for heavy rain. Just watch your speed, at this stage I don't think there is a need to avoid the motorway.

Make sure your nose weight is good or you may sway.
We have towed all sorts of trailer types, with all sorts of motors and it is always those in a rush or are unloaded wrong that seem to be in more trouble. Being sensible which I am sure you are because your asking about it. As agentpants says above watch speed.
Do not forget bridges that have open territory either side as they can have cross winds and/or big lorries that go hell for leather past you .
You'll be fine if you follow the good advice above.
Are you collecting your Adria from Venture? If so they have a good nose weight empty which will help but it's worth taking a full gas bottle with you if you're not getting it with the van as it will help put it nearer to 70-80kg. Also if you're getting an awning I would place this inside the van over the axle.
We have the same van and they tow well. Our first outing in the spring was very windy heading down the M5 but the van remained stable even though we tow close to 85% with an Audi A4 . Keep your speed steady and go at your own pace.
Thanks for all your. comments. Yes, collecting from venture, but its had its first service. We've had it year now. It is essentially empty aside from hookup gas water waste and battery. We will be taking a few things with us. I've found it pretty stable to tow so far but not towed it in windy weather so making me a bit anxious. I wouldnt tow on Monday though as that looks much worse. I think it will be ok Sunday morning. I'll take it steady. I usually have a nose weight of 85kg which is the tow ball limit and is 6.5% max permissible mass and 6.3% mass in running order so is ok and towing at about 80%. Any heavy stuff across axle usually but most of this has been taken out (eg awning). Will check nose weight and all tyre pressures too.
