Just had a set of Tyron bands fitted before we use our van for the first time next weekend. Just wondered if anyone had any idea if they are as good as they say they are.

Yup Assured,
We had a blow-out on a French motorway some years ago (always suspected sabotage!). Drove safely and under control to the next aire where we changed the wheel. No damage and little drama. We would always prefer to have them!
However, just like airbags and safety belts, I hope you never have occasion to find out how they work.

Adrian.

Purchased a 2010 Bailey earlier this year and would like to find out if they are fitted .

Take the wheel to a local tyre shop and ask them to check as you will need a tyre machine to break the bead on tyre and push out of the way

Wouldn't be without them, gives peace of mind on M/ways. If fitted they put a sticker on wheel rim.

They are worth the money as they give you a discount on your insurance. We wouldnt be without them. After a period of time they will have paid for themselves

My bands cost £75 each (think that included fitting). When we bought the caravan we were told they were already fitted, but then had a blow out, that is how we knew we didn't have them after all. Luckily we didn't have any problems on that occasion. I had them fitted for piece of mind but did not get any discount on my insurance.

Cost now £160 for a pair plus cost of fitting tool. Over £300 for a twin axle - ouch!

The video they have on website must be at least 20 years old you would think that if they were serious there would be something more up to date than that. I recall seeing the demonstration that Tyron did at Peterborough in about 1991/92 it was impressive seeing the charge detonated and the tyre blowing out but not many tyres blow because of explosive charges.

Personally I would prefer to try to catch the tyre before problems develop using a tyre pressure and temperature sensor.

I paid £140 for the pair fitted, which I thought was reasonable.you never know when a tyre will blow out so for peace if mind I am happy.

I had a puncture at speed on the M6 and the Tyron bands made the caravan tow perfectly and I was able to stop safely. The only problem was that none of my local tyre fitters would look at a wheel with Tyron bands fitted. I took it to a caravan agency and they were able to deal with it.

-------------
We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.
