Hi we are off to look at an Adria Adora tomorrow hopefully see things working and have a good nose around.
One thing we don't have yet is a damp meter I KNOW I KNOW, maybe able to pick one up on the way but feel a bit guilty about putting holes in someone else's property. Would a recent service damp test suffice?
How would you go about paying a deposit it was on ebay ended today?
thanks for any tips and advice.

This is how it works, they don't get the money until you have done the damp test. If it's fine you have put holes in your property, if not then they have only themselves to blame.
Service checks like an MOT only good on the day.

Ask the seller how he wants the deposit paid. It usually says on the ad.
Without a damp meter, you can only check visually and by using your nose. Look underneath lockers, in cupboards, etc.
I was really green when I bought mine. If it's not your first caravan you will be ok, as you will know what you're looking for. If it is your first caravan, take someone who knows all about caravans to go with you if possible.
I was so green, I believed the seller when he said the tide mark on the inside of the roof was from condensation! and it took a lot of fixing!
I would have thought you would be ok with an Adria though, they seem to be a good, well built caravan.
Call at B and Q. You dont have to put holes where they show. Justpush meter under plastic edging strip. I sharpened mine so holes are very very small. The really bad van will smell so if windows are wide open go home. Otherwise push finger against seams and joints especially round windows .Front windows are usually worse. Please be carefull - I looked at loads on e bay that were declared bone dry but clearly werent.Good luck.
When damp was found in my van there was no visible signs or smells what so ever and the meter was nigh on off the scale, it even sounded solid when tapped… you really need to check it with a meter.

the best thing I think I have ever bought is a damp meter I never had one when we got our van back in feb didn't even think of one I asked the dealer about the damp question he replied they would not by any caravan with damp but like a cars mot passes at time of test if and when we decided to get another van in the future I will be armed with my damp meter any damp don't mater how small WALK AWAY.
Thanks for the advice, we walked away. My instincts kicked in within seconds of the door opening. We were not able to check electrics, heating and water just for starters.

Good for you! When I sold our little van, we took water out to it and everything so that people could check it all worked. I then took them around it, pointing out all the little dings and dents, pulls in the curtains and that one of the blinds needed attention so they were fully aware of everything. The only reason to me you couldn't check things was if something was the matter, you did the best thing.
Unfortunately, if it is a bit of a lemon, there will be some poor soul that'll go and look having read Adria reviews and take it on face value. I'm sure you'll find your perfect caravan
The thing is, if sellers are up front with what the problems are then there are people around who will still take it on, with no bad feelings later down the line. Our little Abi was given away free via Gumtree - the owner was completely honest about the damp, and now we have a project for the winter - and its first big outing will be at the Latitude festival next year:)
I think Vans should have MOT style checks prior to being sold:)
