Every year when we go back to the van after winter we find mould on the edge of work surface and doors not lots but enough to drive me mad.

before putting the van in storage we disinfect bleach and clean the van. and take every thing we can out but its always got some mould in it when we return.

The caravan is bone dry and never had any damp

Does anyone else suffer from this problem or is it just us.?

Does anyone know how to stop it happening.?

Could be caused by condensation not enough air circulating.

My only thought is lack of through ventilation so as to air the inside. The structure of the van itself may be dry, but moist air just sitting there will form mould.

Try putting a couple of cat litter trays in, each filled with cheap common cooking salt, its amazing how much damp they will remove from the air inside your caravan over winter.

They can be removed and stored over summer and allowed to dry out, then stired and broken up back into fine grains ready to use again next winter season.

We have used this method of keeping our caravans dry and mould free over winter and in about 8 different outfits, and have never had any problems over the years, so worth giving it a try.

It is condensation .
We do the same it is annoying . Also our weather is so damp. With so much rain. No matter what you do you will have some.
But most does clean off so don't worry too much I put tays of salt and things inside to help . I never know if this works or not. it is impossible to keep it away completely unless it is out side your house where you can open windows or put heaters on sometimes.
I do leave the roof window blinds open to let some sun warm it up and I don't close blinds on windows I put them half way then use curtains again to let the little sun we have warm it up .

You need to ensure all permanent ventilation points are unobstructed, this will probably mean leaving toilet & cupboard doors open. Dehumidifying devices like trays of salt don't really help as they store moisture inside the caravan & make the interior more damp. Also they would need to be emptied regularly or they will overflow which means caravan needs to be visited regularly.

The wording of op suggests does the caravan is not visited all winter otherwise surfaces could be wiped over with bleach on a regular basis to prevent mould forming.

When we had a van i always left ALL windows on the 'catch' so that as much air as possible was getting in, hth
