Hi everyone, has anyone on this forum used GEM or Drve24_7
for breakdown cover as soon mine is up for renewal and now I am retired every penny counts. They seem much cheaper than the major companies. They are listed under breakdowns in the company directory.

Lawrence, Have a look at Autoaid. I have been a member for 20 years. It's a pay and claim scheme. It currently costs £39 a year. I've never broken down with a caravan in tow, but it does cover cars and attached trailers. If you break down you initially pay the recovery operator and then claim back off the policy. Refund is usually within seven days. I've only had to claim four times and never had a problem. They even cover overnight accommodation if required.
Dave.

We've added the Camping and Caravan clubs Arrival scheme to our RAC policy, i don't think it added much to the cost.

check size of caravan with them as some breakdown firms cannot cope with a very large caravan.

We've been with GEM for several years and can't fault them.    Broke down on the way back from Devon recently and no issue getting us and the caravan home.

Check policies carefully, most will cover your caravan if being towed and your car breaks down, your car and caravan will be recovered, But, what if your caravan suffers a problem, such as a wheel falling off, or brakes sticking on etc etc, you will find that most breakdown cover does not cover this. Both caravan club and caravan and camping club have breakdown cover which includes both the caravan and car if either breaks down, no more expensive either and you dont have to be a member tow get it, one is through green flag, the one I have and I think the other clubs is through RAC. It has other benefits too such as if you breakdown towing you to your booked holiday destination and then towin you home at the end of your holiday etc . well worth a look.

try greenflag mayday.
Cover both car and caravan.
Think you need to be caravan club member but heard on the grapevine may be cheaper without caravan club but not enquired may be worth asking the question
