I went to the caravan today to begin shutting shop for winter, but when I went in I could smell a musty smell, after searching everywhere I eventually found it was coming from the toilet cassette, Ive brought it home and left it outside and will clean it, but I was wondering what do i clean and disinfect it with. I have some milton, but wondering if that will get rid of the smell. Thank you

The smell is mostly from bacteria living in the gunge that forms on the insides of cassette. Bleach is great at killing the bugs but does not remove the gunge (fats and scale) which means you have a ready breeding ground for new bacteria. A combination of a scale remover (weak acid) and a detergent will break down the scale and emulsify the fats and leave the cassette nice and clean. A little fabric conditioner will leave it smelling of roses
The Thetford and Fenwicks products mentioned previously essentially do as described above although I have found the Thetford Cassette Cleaner slightly more effective (think it uses a different source of acid to break down the scale better).

We used Washing Soda last time our 'box' got a bit gungey! Bag of Washing Soda from Tesco, probably half of it with some warm water, shake well and often to dissolve the Soda.
Works well.
