Hello, I am new to UK campsite but not to touring with a caravan, we are about to start a seasonal pitch next year and so need some advice which I am sure is here.
We intend to buy a full awning suitable for seasonal use; my question is about which flooring material is ok?
I am drawn to the interlocking closed cell tiles often sold by Aldi but available elswhere too. The base material for the awning is hard with light gravel so there is no consideration for grass here.
The 'Aldi style' tiles also have uniform holes throughout, and it is this feature that I am interested. We expect to use chair tables etc in the awning and wonder just how well these 'holes' will work, will they break up or catch and tear as chairs are moved?
I gather that there are some similar tiles using the same material but they have a smooth or textured finish.
Opinions from users of either would be most welcome, thanks
We use the mats with the textured surface but then put our old tent carpet over the top works a treat, and stops small items being lost in the holes of the mat

I have insolation rubber on the gravel, then 2 layers of vis queen,3 ground sheets, then i put the carpet on top.The insolation rubber matting i get of my son in law, They are screeders so thats a bit of a expensive way to go.But others on the site just level the gravel so theres no bumps, then the vis queen, ground sheet then carpet. If you can try to fit the carpet up over the awning skirt. This really keeps the heat in.I use a hot glue gun to stick the carpet to the awning skirt,

Its not a hangover, its wine flu!
Following the very wet summer of 2012, we decided last year to put in a plywood floor on top of timber batons. Our van stays on it's pitch all year so floor is now dismantled and stored under the van for the winter as we take our awning down in October each year.
Thank you for your great replies, I think I'm more convinced to go with the smooth or texture tile, I think they are called EVA tiles, they have uses for Gymnasium or light workshop use.
Now I need to ask a supplementry question, best Awmning carpet???
We also have a slightly raised floor on our seasonal pitch, we got some of the cheap cord carpet for £50, its done us 3 seasons so far an will be going back down again in march when the awning goes back up. £50 well spent as far as i am concerned!
We used the EVA tiles from costco they were really good value, then we had a waterproof membrane and then an isabella bolon carpet over the top. the floor tiles were great very insulating and warm underfoot.
We use these large packs of six foam mats . and find them to be very good and great to walk on.
we have used them for years, after time they can turn up at the edges where you constantly walk and can be a trip hazard, we cured this by using gaffa tape on the back to hold down the ones that turned up.

Hi Bridgelayer, thats were i bought mine a few years back, you have to pay a £25 joining fee to shop there.
not sure if you still do, or can you buy from them on line
without the fee??
Just been on their site, 5% added to price when bought on line.
That's where we bought ours, been a member for years. £25+vat per annum, the 5% is only for non members.

Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Free family membership for me - Oldest lad works there! Marriage does have some consolation, if that's the right word.
I f I recall correctly, the Aldi mats were quite a bit dearer than Costco's but still do the same job. If you know anyone who's a member, ask them to take you along.

Hi I've ordered the charcoal grey/black eva tiles with the chequer plate pattern from the link below, good price and the the exact type available through Amazon. They were able to give me a price for the actual square metres that I needed.
