dont know so asking, who pays for the fire damage or loss the storage site or your own insurance ???

what a mess.

Your own caravan insurance will pay. Storage site t&c's always state storage at owner's risk & any attempt to hold them responsible would fail as liability could not be proven.

It would need to be proved i think, that the storage owners were at fault for the fire.

Regarding storage, as you have paid the storage owner to look after your caravan, they have a "Duty of Care" and can be held liable for damage to a caravan despite a clause in the T & Cs of the contract stating "no liability" etc. The clause would be deemed an Unfair Clause in consumer contracts.

Really sad pics :(
Our friends have lost their van in that fire.
We have actually stayed on that side on a bank holiday, and it was like being at a festival! Tents were SO close to each other, with no proper pitches - we have never been back!!
Noone was hurt, thankfully.

A condition of storage is always that your caravan is insured so your first call would be to your own caravan insurer, so the caravan owner would not be attempting to claim off the site owner anyway. Any claim on the site owner would be dealt with by his own public liability insurer who would reject any claim from caravan insurer unless liability could be proved....Which it could not, the site owner's 'duty of care' would not, for example extend to preventing Chinese lanterns decending from the sky..

Have you ever been asked to produce proof that your caravan is insured when storing it? Correct that the insurers would fight it out but ultimately it will end up with the storage owner's insurance company fighting it out.
Ultimately liability lies with the storage site owner whether or not Chinese lanterns are involved and this indeed does open a can of worms. If unsure about this, consult any solicitor.

The t&c's of storage site require insurance & if you had none then taking personal action against site owner would fail anyway as you are in breach of t&c's. Academic anyway because unless your caravan was only worth a few £100s you would insure it anyway & you would claim on that insurance. Taking personal action against site owner would probably fail & be pointless due to potential costs.

Surely this -

"The owner of the site says there were floating lanterns let off into the sky on the night the blaze took hold. He said there was a party in the site's clubhouse, and chinese style floating lanterns were set off into the sky."

might place some liability on the owner of the site as it was people in the clubhouse (which should be the owners responsability)who let the lanterns off. ??

Then find those that actually released the lanterns, liability of the site owners would have to be proved in court so it is doubtful if the individual caravan insurers would bother to take it further than paying out their customers.

What some posters are missing is that there is no automatic liability of the site owners just because they own the site. If it reached court then liability or not would be decided by a judge. Usually these things are decided between insurance co's & insurance co's mostly don't bother to take it that far. They certainly don't bother to pursue individuals, its not worth it, there is not enough money in it.

Principles don't matter to insurance companies, only profit & it is easier just to load premiums rather than go to court.

The above seems to indicate that the owner knowingly allowed the Chinese lanterns to be launched. However we are all assuming that it was one of these that started the fire.
