Caravan club, they don't go into hissy fits if your dog slips its lead.

Have been member of both for some years, can't count the number of CC Sites I have stayed on but only four C&CC sites, Culzean, Delamere Port, Keswick and Cannock Chase. Culzean and Keswick are beautifully situated but the facilities in the latter are, in my view, deplorable, not of this century. None of the other C&CC sites have facilities in the same class as ANY CC site I have stayed on. Wardens can be good, bad or indifferent anywhere. Big plus for me for C&CC is cost of caravan insurance. Join both & see which you prefer.

C&CC for us, tried the CC several times & found their booking system a nightmare and hated the fact that we had to pre book for rallys for goodness sake!
Also found CC very regimented and cliquey- lots of keeping up with the jones type of thing.
We also have friends with tents which aren't welcomed really by the CC either.
We prefer deciding on rallys & THS sites at last min due to work and rarely use any club sites.
Best thing to do is if you can afford it join both for a year and try then, everyone has a different opinion so its hard for any of us to say either one is best for you, we just know whats best for us!

You are right about tent camp pitches within the C.C sites. They are few and far between to be of any use for campers.
I can only speak for Scottish C.C sites, I do not know of any that offer Elec hookup for campers, thats not to say there are not.

The few that allow tents are generally geared towards backpacking tents and in my experience as a C.C. member is that they actually try to discourage tents.

I have used sites that allow small tents (backpacking),
Braemar/Gibson Park .

In saying that I still prefer the C.C. when using our caravan for the reasons I said in my previous post.

We have both caravan and tent holidays and have been members of the C.C. for 30 yrs ish in total.

I have noticed in the C.C. sites directory they do say Tent campers welcome where relevant.

Last time I counted there were 70 out of 210 that accepted tents on there own. All CC sites accept pup tents on the pitch with a caravan for use as extra sleepong accomodation.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

I'm not sure how many of the 70 are in Scotland, will need to look at the sites directory.
I don't think many people are aware that the C.C. actually has some sites that allow tents unless you are a C.C. member?

They do mention it on their website for the sites that allow tents but how many tent campers look at the Caravan Club site for a tent pitch?
It does have a bit more focus than in previous years.

I have spoke to some members at various C.C. sites who frown on tents being allowed.

Just had our first cc rally book sent through. Seems rather formal and full of rules. I expect we will try their rallies (as well as C&CC) but it's dampened the excitement somewhat.

From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!

I never did get on with their rally's, must say though its been nearly 50 years since I went to one.
Still think its the best club if you take dog's with you.

What else should they do? It is in their handbook and on their website. As to members frowning, you asked the wrong ones. There are a few members of both clubs who think the only way of using the sites is their way. There are thousands of members of both clubs who just want to get on with their time away and could not care how other people choose to do the same.

I think you have got the wrong end of the stick.
My post was not a complaint, I was merely stating some facts and observations as a long time C.C. member.

I am one of the people you mention who just likes to get on with my time and what others do is their choice.
You might have noticed I mentioned I tent camp as well as caravan and always have done, so your comment about using the sites only my way is a bit silly.

You have obviously spoken to all the right people, I only mentioned I had spoke to some but I guess that must make you right.
I did not criticise your comments, I only expressed my own
