In modern houses only the kitchen tap is fed from the rising main. All the other taps are fed from a header tank in the loft.
So when you get up in the night and get a glass of water from the bathroom, remember its been sat in the loft for weeks.
Its a good idea to check the lid is secure, otherwise your water will have all sorts of crap rotting away in it

It would be interesting to know how many people do actually get ill from water, been boating/camping/caravaning all my life, now with 3 littlies and a immunosupressed member of the family we are all still fine!!      we have fitted a filter this year to remove taints, but sure it's more psycological!
