Went to the caravan a couple of days ago and underneath the van is a large puddle of water, but I am not surprised after the rain we have had. When I went into the van, the arm arm rest on the seats has a bit of green fluffy stuff on, I think that is damp, it does come off and ive put salt and crystals in to mop the damp up, but I have spoken to the site owner who wont have it that the puddle is contributing to the damp in the van and isnt for filling the hole, we have asked if we can do it, but was met with a "Um dont know, I will get my hubby to have a look at it, I will get back to you in a fews days". Now! are we right saying that the puddle isnt helping and contributing to the stuff on the seats and it should be filled in by them. For the money they charge yearly I think its right they to do the job, but she may say we dont think its needs doing and where does that leave me. I know move off, but the places round here a alot more money and very highly sought after...

I don't think a puddle would affect your van, otherwise camping on a damp grass pitch would do the same - more likely poor ventilation.

As above a puddle under the van wont affect the interior.
The air does seem really moist this year. Ive noticed it in my car also.
Is the caravan covered? Are the vents all clear?
I leave all the cupboard doors and fridge open and lift all the seat bases to allow air to circulate.

If the damp is so bad as to cause mould on the arm rest(s) I wouldn't have thought the puddle under the van would be the major problem here...more likely to be a ventilation issue or a leak. Have you had the van damp tested recently? As far as keeping your storage pitch up to scratch goes, I would agree that the site owners are responsible but if you are only paying relatively low charges, you may well have difficulties trying to get them to do repairs. It's the same where we live, good storage spots at reasonable prices are like gold dust and the attitude of the owners is often well "take it or leave it". They can, so they do.

The puddle will have nothing to do with the problem. Water will not make the leap into your van. The only way it would have any possible impact was if it was warm enough to create steam - unlikely.
Chrystals and salt will do little to help either. You need to find the source of the water ingress and then dry it out. Humidifiers may help with that but not until the leak is fixed.

Towing the caravan in the rain will have a much greater impact. The water will be getting under the van and wetting the floor and a chance of some spray getting up into the vents.
But parked in a puddle, Even several inches deep with have no impact.
Ventilation issue. Or the caravan maybe leaking.

No doubt many will disagree, but I would suggest that bowls of salt, crystals and dehumidifiers have at best only moderate effect - surely, unless the caravan is totally, completely and 100% airtight, air from the outside and the naturally present water vapour content will gradually work its way into the van, subsequently mingling with and "wetting" the previously dried/dehumidified air inside the van?
Apparently, the generally accepted reason for the modern-day increase in condensation problems in homes is (amongst others) the decrease in ventilation via open fire chimneys, and the increase in insulation such as draught excluders and double glazing...

I have pulled all the seats away from the sides and stood them away from the floor, opened all the doors, fridge etc, even opened the curtains to let a bit of warmth in when and if the sun shines again!. I cant smell any damp at all, I am so careful and obsessed about damp I try to do anything I can to help. I am having a service at the end of feb. All the vents are clear, I have looked under seats, in the shower and bathroom and cant find anything....I think I have done all I can do to help to be honest and the rest is out of my hands maybe!!
The site fee isnt a small amount either its £300 per year and may rise again this time and the area isnt well maintained for that type of money. Dog pooh, weeds, rubbish and potholes!!!!

If any water has recently got into the van it wont start to smell for some time.
You need to have a search for any colder damp patches and try to stop it before it gets any worse.

puddle under the van ? sounds like a burst pipe or connection to me ...did you drain the water system before putting it to bed for the winter? i had this problem last year a frozen and burst water filter was the culprit
