We have been offered a good deal on a size 16 awning which does up to 1056. Our caravan size is 1058 (so ideally a 17). This seems like it wouldn't make much difference to me, but I have never had a full size awning so have no idea whether to go for it or not! ?! It's still a lot of ££ if it doesn't fit properly..... But it's only 2 cm!!!!
So the guy actually doesn't know if it's a 16 or 17. Just knows it's a 1050.... so could be either.
It was on a Eldis super cyclone. The older specifications are saying they are 1050 awning but the new vans spec says 1075. ...Do the model sizes change from year to year? I'm starting to think it could actually be the 17 but the guy just isn't sure!
Still scared to part with a few hundred quid and its too small :-(
If you look at the 'Dorema' website it gives you a run down of their awning sizes but remember that different awning manufacturers apply their own sizes so they are not all identical. The guy selling the awning said that the awning is definitely 1050 cms. but it depends if it is a size 16 (1025 - 1050) or a size 17 (1050 - 1075) as both could be categorised as that size. You really need the size to be confirmed because if it's a size 16 you could be struggling to pitch it out on uneven ground. It's always best to go for the higher size rather than the lower for this specific reason and for an example, my Coachman handbook states that the awning rail size is 886 cms. so I bought a 'Dorema' size 10 which goes up to 900 cms. but it only just fits about right.
Below is the Dorema size chart.
RESULT. Decided to go for this awning..... worst case scenario would be to sell it on. But as it turns out it's a 17!!!!! Exactly what we were looking for (found a wee label inside the bag). It's in great condition (2012) exclusive xl 300.... roll on summer!!! X
Great result especially as it's in good condition and I think you will find it will fit perfectly. If it's like our Dorema awning there should be two storm strap clips (one at either end) and have found these to be really useful in wet and windy conditions as it stops the roof from pooling in heavy rain and also prevents it from lifting in windy weather. If it doesn't have the storm straps included it's well worth buying them from Dorema direct.
