Hi there, I'm new to all of this and could do with a bit of advice, I've found a lovely little cadet 10 in need of some TLC! It's in pretty good nick (I think) considering it's age so I now I just need start the renovation....but I'm not entirely sure where to start! It has been used fairly regularly by previous owner, it towed well from Yorkshire to Derbyshire but does have a leak which I've not located yet. My other half says I need to get someone in the know out to take a look at the whole thing and tell me everything that needs doing. A service is going to be around £170 which will probably be money well spent.....but
before committing to this was hoping to find a a step by step guide on caravan renovations but haven't found anything yet, can't find any manuals on this model either???
Anyone have any advice????
Thank you!
Louise
It will be worth replacing tyres even if not worn out if you have no proof they have not been changed in the last 6yrs as they could be perished & fail at motorway speeds.
£170 will be full service of interior as well which may not be worth it if you are restoring caravan because its easy enough to check cooker etc is working, depends on your funds because for towing reliability you only need a chassis service should be about £70+parts. You may well need new wheelbearings & brake shoes for example so all costs that need to be factored in.
Jo's right. At the very least, a chassis service and a gas and electricity check, and check the tyres.
However, if you have lots of renovations to carry out first - sorting out damp probs, etc., then you would be best leaving these checks until after the renovation.
Hi Louise, welcome to the site, great little caravan its the one that started me off years age.
My dad had one of these and he used to let the tires down a little and push it into the garage and pump them up again
The first thing to do is stop the leak before spending any money on a service.
Is the leak coming from the awning rail or from a window.
There are loads of videos on how to do it ( second half of this video for window) click this one.
Or just ask on here.
Thanks to all for the really useful advice, have done some reading and will head out tomorrow for another proper look, have a funny feeling that the water might be coming in behind the pull handle on the front of it.....and possibly a window and maybe even a rail!! Fun and games ahead.
cheers,
Louise
Water often gets in around the grab handles. Provided the wood underneath is not rotten, loosen them off & squirt some PU sealant underneath them & tighten up again. Always use a PU sealant like Sikaflex512 or Tigerseal etc for sealing. Silicone sealant is not really up to the job.
