We bought our 2006 Bailey 3 years ago. We were a bit naive to say the least and managed to part ex a lovely dry Swift for a soggy mess. However, we sucked it up and have spent the last 3 years (and about 2k) getting it good. We are now looking at part exing it for a new van but the repair place we have recently visited has pointed out some fine hairline cracks, about 1 inch in length radiating out from the awning rail. We have reached the end of out tether with this van and just don,t know what is best to of with it now, it is dry at the moment as we have just had the awning rail resealed and inside boards replaced BUT for how long, now that we have discovered these cracks, I do not know. Any dealer will pick these up, I'm sure. We are now considering selling it on ebay and stating the defects. I have even approached some of these "we will buy any caravan" people off the internet this afternoon. I would appreciate some advice,
Alison.
Alternatively find a van you would be happy with at a dealers, then take your van for a valuation before you finalise the deal. Let them thoroughly examine it without colouring their opinion. If their valuation suits then fine if it does not that would be the time to look elsewhere.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Thanks for your replies. We have had a quote of £4800 from caravan buyer.org. Has anyone used them? I have been totally honest with the guy. If he finds anything else it is something we are not aware of (or the repair place we have had it at recently). Our aim now is to see if we can knock down the price of a caravan we are looking at locally. As a cash buyer do you think a dealer would consider knocking 500 of a 12k caravan? The cash price we have offered for our caravan is about £500 short of the part ex price quoted by the dealer of the new caravan. But he hasn't seen it yet.
My head is spinning with all this and I'm driving my OH bonkers!
Theres ALWAYS a deal to be done when buying anything. Tell the dealer you very much want to buy the van, but just cant afford 12k. You arent interested in loans or finance either.
You MUST be prepared to buy there and then though, so be sure exactly what you are happy to pay for the 'van before you return. Its no use hammering out a deal, then going away to 'think about it'. If the dealer thinks you are about to sign on the dotted line, he will flog you his granny!
Oh, and you want 'extras' as well. At least one gas bottle, hook up, water barrel etc.!
As long as your van is dry, most dealers will take in PE.
You might be surprised at the deal you may get.
No trade in is always worth a discount (perhaps more than you estimate- especially at this time of year.
Take your van around a few dealers for a quote on what you fancy. Keep your options open but if you buy a van before selling your own you may be under pressure to take whatever price you can get in a private sale.
A few cracks as described should not be a big deal to buyers.
Thanks Mick, we are thinking of going back there this afternoon to do the deal. Now I think I know the answe to this but we looked at a caravan last week and they couldn't transfer the bailey wTer ingress warranty as they did not have the service records. But it was 1k cheaper. With our past experiences we decided to walk away but were we foolish. Is the remaining warranty (6 years) worth 1k.
Alison.
Depends what the warranty covers, and how many loopholes are in it. And, if the warranty company is around for the next few years. On the face of it, a grand probably is worth 6 years peace of mind, as a bit of damp can eat that up in one go.
Good luck with what you decide. I wouldnt take a van with no warranty at all though, at any price.
Well we managed to get £500 off the price ,which is what I had set in my mind. The sale includes a six month warranty, the remainder of the 10 year water ingress warranty, and some extras with the caravan.. Electric cable, battery and a very fancy ALKO wheel lock. So all in all we are very happy. Pickling it up a week on Thursday,
Thanks for all your replies
