I would claim
when it comes to renewal, cant you take out the policy in your OH's name? No hike in ins premiums then

I have CC insurance and over the last 22 years have claimed twice, on neither occasion was there any increase in the premium on renewal.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Insurance ask if you personally, the named policy holder if you've claimed in the kast 5 years.
We did it with house insurance after I made a claim for theft. Its now in my OH's name

We had a total loss (caravan stolen), the premium didn't go up much the first year and now it is lower than before as we have 2 Al-ko wheel locks.

A friend of mine had a load of dents in the side of his caravan due to storm damage when his awning blown down and the poles battered the side of his van.
he claimed on his insurance and the repair shop filled all the dents and resprayed the side of the van.
they where able to do this because the van had a flat smooth side, no ribs or embossed pattern in it.
when i went to see it you could not tell it had been done, it was just like new.
When you get a quote you will see its well worth doing.
Remember if you trade it in for a new van the dealer will give you a price minus the cost of the repair.
Be selective in who does the repair, any GOOD body shop can do the repair and not just a caravan dealer
