Hi, we have bought a Hobby 720 and are looking for a seasonal awning to go with it. Having phoned around shops I am thinking of the Bradcot Residencia. I know Isabella are the best but my pocket wont stretch that far. Has anyone any advice please???
You may have to purchase the Bradcot 'Residentia' awning via a special order due to the fact that it's not designed for temporary use the same as their Classic, Active or Sport models are which are designed for general touring purposes therefore the demand for this model would be rather minimal in comparison. Because the Residentia awning is more robust, heavier and designed for a more permanent attachment against the elements the awning is somewhat more expensive. According to the Bradcot brochure they recommend this model awning mainly for caravans that are permanently sited. From previous experience I have found that Bradcot are quite a good awning actually and although Isabella are probably the best on the market the price is reflected on it's good quality but Braccot or Dorema I consider would be a good choice.

Then the best choice would be to opt for an awning such as the 'Residentia' as like I said this awning is aimed for a permanent resisidence which is reflected in the name. There may be other awning manufacturers that also make a robust awning for this very purpose but remember that it is strongly advised to insure it because high winds can completely destroy awnings as I have seen in the past. However, not all touring caravan insurance companies will insure caravans sited for more than 28 days so it may be considered as a static caravan so it's worth asking before you actually spend your cash on an awning to see if the make of awning makes a difference to the insurance premium.
If you put in a search for 'Dorema Factory Clearance' they have full awnings at 40% discount which can only be purchased direct from Dorema but I don't think they have the type of awning you are looking for. However, it may be worth at least giving them a ring as you never know, they may well have a brand new (last year's stock) residential available at a massive discount price.
With reference to the insurance, again you need to ring for advice as residential insurance comes under a different category to touring caravan insurance. With my touring caravan insurance I have the option to insure my awning or not but if your caravan is sited for several months the terms and conditions may differ.
I previously had a Bradcot 'Sport' but was too small to fit our current caravan so I had to purchase a new one which we bought a Dorema 'Montana' from their factory clearance back in 2010 mainly because it was cheaper. Both awnings had the steel pole construction which although heavier are more robust than the lighter aluminium poles. However, I found that the poles for the Bradcot were easy to construct and the material was lighter which was made from Acrylic which although was lighter it was not so warm as the Dorema polyester material which is heavier to transport. The Dorema also has sewn in plastic clips at either end to attach storm straps (which are advisable if the awning is up for long periods) which is beneficial as it also stops rain pooling on the roof so although the Bradcot and Dorema can differ in some ways I find that the Dorema although heavier is little more robust and practical.
