Hi all, we've just bought a little caravan - old but perfectly formed! It's an Abi Monza 450 S so I think made in 1990, very good condition, however it doesn't have an awning ..... soooo - can anyone offer tips on what size to go for please? Obviously we aren't going to lay our hands on the exact one for the caravan - it's 15 ft and I thought perhaps I should be seeking a 15ft awning, but there again perhaps not? I have seen one or two ads for 15ft but a lot say "size 8 or size 10" as if they were clothes, and some give cm - 914 cm - well this would be over 30 ft - and I wonder whether we are supposed to measure the entire length of the groove where you feed it in, and go by that measurement, or what? Any guidance gratefully received and thanks in advance.
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Just a word of warning regarding awnings and about the length of your caravan. If your caravan has what they call a boat roof (with a point at the centre like a boat upside down) which some of the older models have then the overall distance from 'X to Y' (shown in Jeff's link) will be shorter than that of a caravan with a flat roof. So the advice is to always check by this method or go with the awning manufacturer's size if your caravan is listed.
