Indeed Bill, river tolls would have to be paid, and they tend to charge by length of the boat, so for a tiny Caraboat it would probably be around the price of an average road fund licence. Its the BSS certificate that can be more expensive, as some older boats require major works to comply with their strict safety standards, and some owners have been forced to scrap or sell on as a project a boat that they simply could not afford to upgrade.
The Caraboats that l have come across ' in the flesh ' have been made of GRP, Moulded in one piece, just like many of their big brothers the traditional hireboat rivercruisers, so no real big issues with external leaks, as it often takes decades of years for the problems of GRP osmosis to take hold. Indeed some hire cruisers are still afloat and regular service with GRP hulls built in the early 1960s.

But I bet you will need a river & canal licence to use it in the uk. £1000 a year.
