I am looking to sell my caravan and I am after some advice on the best way of selling it ? We are packing up caravaning and wondered if people have much luck selling them private or is it best to go to a dealer.
Depends on the age of the caravan. If its a fairly new caravan a dealer will probably want it for stock for the coming season but will offer a very low price. If you advertise it privately expect derisory offers & most of these will be dealers offering cash.
Your best bet is probably ebay for most coverage at least cost. If caravan is just a few yrs old an auction might not reach reserve so classfied ad at a fair price might be more sensible. If caravan is 10yrs old or more then ebay auction with reserve might do the trick.
When you advertise it avoid claims like 'bone dry' if your not certain it is, for example. A good set of photos & a clear description works best on ebay in my experience, expect dreamers/time wasters, its par for the course.

Sold our 2002 van pretty easily last year. We had interest selling on here but actually sold via ebay. We put it on an auction, encouraged viewing then done the deal at a viewing.
The buyer actually only lived about a mile away.
Ebay will always give the greatest audience. Some people hate it. I love it.
I'd try preloved and gumtree first because they are free, then ebay classifieds. We sold ours last year via preloved, if I remember correctly, (in fact I need to get on and advertise our current one on there too). Make sure you tell the truth and are clear about what is and isn't included in your advert, do think like a buyer (then be prepared for every viewer not to have read what you have written ;-)
We sold our last two on Ebay, did our homework and decided on a fair price, advertised it with lots of photos and a very honest description of everything included in the sale including that they were sold as seen, both vans sold to the first person to come and see them. If we were selling another van I'd stick it on Ebay without a second thought.
Pictures, pictures, pictures.
when we were looking to buy, even a lot of dealers use library pictures which we found to be really frustrating. Be very honest in your description pointing out any bad bits, close up photos of dents on outside etc.
When we sold the folding camper we got a good price but he wanted the awning carpet, wastemaster and aquaroll which we included so as not to lose our buyer. We then got our caravan from the local dealer and I found all of the above second hand so got some great bargains.
Good Luck.
