We are having our garden levelled and a hard standing put in to store the Van at home rather than at the place we now store it at at,The van will be behind six foot high locked gates with a Hitch lock and wheel clamp fitted, can any one recommend additional security measures that we can take to make it more secure.
When we had our hard standing put in, we added a removable security bollard. The bollard has a hitching ball on the top if you want to be super-secure!
thanks for the input the van will be at the rear of our property and local crime prevention officer has suggested CCTV and a large sign on the gates but not sure local crims around here read English. To be honest was happy keeping it in storage but they now want us to be back before 12 noon on a Sunday so looking for more flexibility and I can put external Electric so it can be kept warm and the battery charged. I like the Idea of the Bollard will get one of those.
I think you have more than enough security there. Easily enough to satisfy the caravan insurance stipulations. Unless the van is so high-value, ie worth going to the trouble to prise it out to flog on. As opposed to taking the one down the road thats worth a bit less but just needs hooking on and away, i wouldnt do any more.
Remember, you have to 'undo' all this security, just to get it out yourself every time!
The vast majority of owners keep their caravan on their front drives with just wheelclamp/hitchlock. Probably less likely to get stolen than from a storage facility.
