hi all just wondering if any member has been in caravan straight after knee replacement surgery

6 weeks later yes.
Bending down for the steadies caused some pain, lifting loo to empty likewise, otherwise not a problem.
Not really allowed to drive before 6 weeks but that depends on which knee and whether you drive auto.

My OH has had both knees replaced and one done twice as he broke the false cap in a fall. Driving not a problem as I do all the driving anyway. The main problem he found was pegging the awning. He would sit on the caravan step but then found it very difficult to get up.

hi margaret not explained it properly i dont think this is a replacement knee replacement ( hes had both knees replaced )due to it workin loose .we are familiar with what to do regarding caravan what im wondering is hell be ok to go away for 2 months a week after op .cant for life of me remember what was what and its only 4 years ago he had them done

Hi Lyn, Sorry I don't think I read it properly either. I think it will depend how invasive the surgery will be. If they manage to do keyhole, he should be OK but obviously have to take the surgeons advice. Ray had to have the original scar opened up fully again and part of the knee cap removed. Do hope he will be able to make it.

If he is 'opened up' then it will be about 7-10 days before the staples are removed he may still then have a dressing on. They will almost certainly use the line of the original scar.   Expect to be stiffer after this second intervention than the first (I speak from experience) as a result of previously formed scar tissue.
I would ask the consultant for his opinion. I would have thought they would have said already if it was keyhole.

he will probably be asked to return for a check about 6 weeks after the surgery.

its definatley not keyhole surgery its a spinal block anasthetic hes having .weve decided brother in law is coming with me to set it all up while hes in hospital .and will get him to have a word with surgeon regarding going 2 daughters are nurses so theyll take care of him dressing wise but well have to wait and see what happens .thanks all of you for taking time answering

I had a Full Knee Replacement in June 2012, takes a bit of getting use to but I am now riding a pedal assist bike....main problem for me is bending down any pegging out then I have to have a small stool but can bend down enough to do the steadies, the other problem is stepping out of the Caravan the drop down to the first step can be a little deeper than most but other than that is ok....

I had my knee replaced last year.
I've not had any problems setting up.
Chair out,can opened and watch O/H do it all.

good one boris hell have to try it in september cos brother in law putting it up in april for duration .and thanks zipster hes been ok up to now when pegging down (hes already had both knees replaced) but ive read on web that replacement knee replacements can have their problems
