Hi Folks,

Will be first outing in our new van this w/end. Popping over to filey brigg, Friday till tue's.

Anyhow just been up to try out the motor mover, which was alreadt fitted when we bought the van. Albeit, yes the battery is flat!! Had a brainwave!! connect the honda genny eu20, use that to move it. (NO JOY). Why.

Genny working fine, power on the van showing 11/11.5v when genny running, should this move the van, or has power GOT to come directly from the battery.

Please excuse my ignorance here, never used a mover, also prety much novoces to the world of vanning.

Any and all advice taken onboard.

Kevin

You need the amperage not just the volts. 11.5 volts showing? Hasnt got a chance of moving the van. When your battery is fully charged give it ago then. Just a quick one, is the switch turn on for the mover,The genney isnt enough to run your mover,It wont be pumping out over 80amps i dont think.

The issue is not the voltage, but the current. The startup current will be as high as 100amps for a fraction of a second, falling to 15-20amps once the motor mover is working. You will need a large generator to supply a minimum load of at least 20 amps, and even then the startup current will probably trip the generator's fuse first.

C -tek is an excellent smart charger, remember if you check battery straight after charging you will get a high reading..let is sit for a short while to get an accurate reading.

If you use a motor mover while connected to 230v it can draw such a hefty current through the charger that it can cause damage. Many motor movers are fitted with the switch behind the power input socket to prevent them being used while hooked up.

We camped for years. In 2019 we bought an Elddis Avante 454. We like it as it is short (6.9m) and fits in our driveway and has a fixed bed.
We had 127 nights away in the caravan in 2023.

I had read something that leads me to believe that motor mover electronics are at risk from the high voltages that can occur whilst the battery is on charge, eg when van is on EHU.
My recollection was that it was a Powrtouch mover?

11.5 volts is not enough. A fully charged 12v battery will actuallt be about 12.8 volts. 12 volts is almost dead.

Your generator will be putting out approx 8 amps? The movers will be trying to pull upwards of 30 amps.

You need a decent battery for the movers.

You should USE NOT a motor mover while you are running a generator as it will kill the mover and it will cost £ 200 to put right
