Hi yes another early 80's van owner here. only ever herd of van age being a problem for static van sites.
We just get awwwwww thats such a nice little old van.
------------- She may be old, she may be rough around the edges but she is our home from home and we love it.
Should I be concerned? Probably not I feel. I have heard of static sites having an age limit as others have said, but never encountered problems on touring sites in the past.
We are off for a few days tomorrow. It's our first trip with this van, and our first stay in a touring van for a great many years, so we are just going local to check her over. Not too far to come back for all the things we have forgotten, as we will, or to get some tools to fix any problems we encounter.
------------- Best Regards,
Colin

We are back now from our short break, and everything was just fine. No problem with the age of the van, which we believe to be a 1988 model, and we were made very welcome on the site by the staff. No major problems with the van as yet, and even the water heater, which we were told by the seller didn't work, actually worked perfectly. I just don't think they knew how to turn it on. They seemed to think that the switch for it had something to do with the fridge! Fabulous CCC site in Hertford, which I can't recommend enough. Would post a picture but don't know how.
I cannot believe mine will be 20yrs old next yr, we went noseying at new vans the other week and thought that some of the fixtures were very flimsy compared to ours, the only thing I liked was the hidden led lighting so I've bought a 5m flexible strip of them that are cuttable to whatever length you want of fleabay for about £6!
Although the topic Crappy Old Caravans has been running for a while now, I imagine that very few of these are crappy and most of them, my own included, have lots of TLC applied to them.
Buying an older van has many advantages and refurnishing them to ones own requirements makes them more appealing to the owners.
Now if I was to buy a new van, I would be loathed to change it in any way in case I devalued it for future selling on.
Not so with my C.O.C. I am not worried about it losing any value. It is here only for our comforts and when we are done with it, it will have already paid for itself a hundred times over and will owe us nothing.
We used to have a Static van less than 10 miles from Portpatrick and it was an area bedevilled with tatty vans coming over from Ireland and used by those who choose to "travel" the UK on a semi permanent basis, so such a notice has probably been put up, more from past experience than anything we are used to seeing on sites in other areas.
Please don't get me wrong, I am not condoning the actions of this site owner, but I do feel that some site owners have their reasons for making rules that we may find unusual to say the least.
