Friend of mine is just back from Maragowan CC site and while they enjoyed the site, they have advised it wouldn't be suitable for my youngest as it has a deep fast flowing river right next to some of the pitches. I simply can't take the chance of my boy who loves water falling in there, so have swapped my booking to witches craig instead. We will go to Maragowan at some point in the future when he's older and more aware of the dangers of rivers etc.
My main point is, as this is advertised as a family friendly site, shouldn't the entire bank be fenced off, with a lockable gate there for fishing access etc?

Why should it be fenced off ? I would look at a site see it was by a river and assume that it was unsafe for a small child that is liable to wander off . Other families will have older children that will treat the river differently iyswim . Where we live there is a river and some people in town want it all fenced off in town but why it's always been there learn to respect it

I would have thought as a health and safety measure it would be fenced off but I do see your point.
But as for older kids swimming in there, having seen a piece of video, I reckon even a strong swimmer would risk being swept away.

has there been any reports of accidents, I would think its a safe place to go you just need to keep you son supervised just like any other site, although you don't say what age he is he is your reasonability. its nice to have such features on the site,

I do keep him supervised but I do have 4 to keep an eye on. Youngest is 3 and is a handful. An example being last month my five year old fell over and by the time I picked him up the youngest was off.
And if there's one thing I do know being a former h&s rep and done numerous risk assessments, you don't wait until there's an accident before acting, act before there is one.

The River at Maragowan C.C site has embankment separating it from the site and you could requested a pitch at the other side which is quite a distance from the river

I know but the risk is still there, trust me you don't know my boy, he's like lightning, I'd rather just remove us from there and go to a site without a river
