Just got back from our first trip with the caravan which was at a great site, The Old Oaks Glastonbury. Only problem was when putting the awning into the rail we found it coming out in places where the gap is widened, I was wondering if there is a tool available for setting the gap so the awning fits properly or will I need to replace the rail but that sounds like a major job.

There is a tool for opening out the channel where it has been narrowed by impact etc.

Hi, The awning rail has several wider places so you can start threading the awning wherever you wish. These gaps or spaces are only around 10cms or so in length so shouldn't cause the awning canvas to protrude out too much. There are around 4 on average fitted to most caravans. If these gaps are much longer than this then the awning rail has been opened by some excessive force such as very strong winds with the awning itself forcing the gaps to open up. I don't think there are any tools available to set the rail back to factory width. Awning rails are pretty strong and don't easily widen on their own and it would cost a lot to replace it with a new one.Don't attempt to narrow the gap with a hammer or similar tool as it will probably ruin the look of it,I would seek expert advice from a caravan dealer if it is still a problem to you....

Thanks Pinkfloyd I am loath to do anything myself as I may damage it but one suggestion from another caravaner on the site was to cut a piece of wood to the size and shape and use that to tap it back in the places which have opened up using a small plenishing hammer, I will be speaking to the dealer who does my servicing to get their advice. hoping to have it ready for next outing in June.
