Hi I am very new to caravanning and bought my first van recently it is a 22 ft van and I am unable to book it onto most sites as it appears they have a 21 ft limit?! Why is this and is there any way around it? Any advice much appreciated.
That's odd we have a van that is nearly 24 ft and have never had a problem ? I know some sites struggle with twin axles but we have never been turned away from a site or had our size questioned.

we did when we tried to hook, 7m maximum ours is 7.2, we just assumed they just have smaller pitches or problems getting into the site.
had a twin axle many years ago and never had a problem, you may, like us, just have picked one that did have smaller pitches. Shame as it sounded a lovely site.
"Most" certainly won't have a 21 ft limit although some may of course. Huge number of sites out there and always worth phoning if in doubt.
Often it may be access issues to the site so certainly never wing it if it states overall length must be under 21ft
Ours is 7.25m (24ft) long and no issues on any site we have found so far
Mines just over 25ft and never had an issue. Some of the more commercial sites (park resorts, haven etc) have what seems small sizes on their websites but they don't relate to pitch size on the site.
Last year I booked for a park resorts site to be told the maximum tourer length was 17ft. I asked if this included the draw bar but they didn't know. I then asked to be transferred to the touring warden and he said yes it does include the drawbar. I pointed out that 17ft was extremely short for a family orientated site and he said he'd try to fit in our 25ft van. On arrival my pitch was easily 60ftx40ft. The biggest pitch I've ever seen!
We were looking at some C & CC sites in Europe a couple of days ago and one in Holland and one in Spain said 7m max which seems very strange as that seems pretty average size - some of the twin axles must be much larger ??
Caravan are officially measured over between front and back of the body, the draw-bar is not taken into consideration.
This is where a lot of confusion comes in when assumptions are made that length includes the drawbar !
A 19ft Bailey Unicorn Valencia is actually 24ft long overall(in the specs Bailey quote internal length to further confuse)
Park resorts have started this with their 6m rule if you ring they try to sell you a pitch and a half
However some sites like Skipsea, Hunstanton etc state 10m
Haven's website now asks length of unit with a dire warning that you may be turned away or asked to pay more if you underestimate
CL's will state length requirements or if they don't bother neither do we...
