We have a Swift touring caravan which does not have an oven after 2 years of struggling without we have decided to try and get one and have found several on e-bay. Does anyone know how much it would cost to have one fitted we can't do ourselves as we are not prepared to mess with gas there is a fitting in cupboard below grill for an oven so if anyone can advise on how much it would cost we would be grateful. Also will it affect the weight when towing of caravan our car will easily tow a lot more than our caravan weighs but not sure how it will affect caravan with oven fitted. Any advice appreciated.
hi jenny james my local caravan repair man £60.00 quid i thought it bit steep so i bought electric combo oven/grill one for £40.00 better and much cheaper

I think that anything around the £60 - £80 price range is a good deal, just make sure that whoever fits the oven is registered with Gas safe, there will be a little bit of work to do preparing the cupboard area to take the oven, so £60 - £80 is the least I would expect to pay.
Also insist on a gas tightness test to be carried out on completion of the work - you should receive documentation to confirm this has been done.
Don't go for a cheaper alternative unless they are Gas Safe Registered - It's not worth the risk.
If as you say that yor caravan is well within the capability of your towcar, the addition of the oven will have little or no effect
Another vote for Halogen - they are brilliant. We use ours at home more than we use the normal oven now. There's nowt like it for cooking tandoori chicken and getting the 'burnt' bits. Breakfasts, burgers a Sunday Dinner (they make brilliant yorkies).
Wouldn't be without ours and may well take it to France in June.
We already have a Halogen but my hubby really does not like it and wants a built in oven in the cupboard under the grill it would be so much easier. We also want a second hand one really as new ones are hundreds but are struggling to find any in our area (Stourbridge) they all seem to be miles away.
Know what you mean, Jenny. I think it's known as a version of Murphy's law and it goes something like "the bigger the bargain, the further away it will be".
I have the same problem. My caravan has no oven, and I'm not sure which route to take. My gut feeling says get an electric one, which is much easier, but then I'm limited to sites with EHU. Still, I suppose most of them have EHU days.
Hi Colin
We only ever go to sites with EHU so an electric oven would be ok for us but I don't see many of those about and then would the site electric be enough power? i think we will still be trying to sort this one out next year!!!!
Hi Jenny,
Try Amazon, they seem to have small electric ovens. In view of what you say about site electric, I would go for one rated at below 1000 watts (1kw). About 800 watts should be fine I would think.
