As I suspected the awning seems truly stuck on the rail so we currently can't go home.
I've got it slid along so its only on the vertical part on the right side but I'm pulling like mad and it won't move. I've tried pulling the awning at the top and the bottom and its not budging.
Currently options are stay here for ever, cut it off with some scissors or drive home with the awning like a big flag behind us.
Maybe obvious but have you tried taking it the other way? I wouldn't cut it, it went on so it must come off. I can't think why it isn't coming off though unless the rail has been damaged somehow?

That's really weird. I'm trying to picture in my head your situations and what I would do.
Have you used any lubricant? Wd40 or other silicone based lube?
Is there any visible obstruction like a loose screw or just muck?

First time I've used an awning. It was difficult getting it on but as it was on I'd have thought it would have come off ok. Will get furniture polish for next trip but I'm worrying I'm just not strong enough to do it.

try a Awning Rail Spreader just gently tapping it through.
The gap in the rail might be extremely tight, so gripping at the Awning bead.

I have got one in my caravan tool box too and it pays to slide it through at the start of each season to ensure that the rail is free for the awning cord to slide through. Also the best lubricant is to apply candle wax to the awning cord as any liquid lubrication may affect the material.
