We have had a fixed bed model for two years and served us well despite the bed being fairly small.
Unfortunately illness to my better half has made the bed no longer suitable so were in the process of changing to a large front lounge which means a nice big bed.
The one down side of the fixed bed is the space it takes up which is unusable during the day.
For us on our own it was fine but not so good when the grand kids came along.
hi i have a sprite alpine 4 its one of the lightest fixed beds i believe and its 21'1" length.i have found it to be a good van no problems towing.i would not go back to any other style van now its great not having to make beds up.

We have a fixed bed Sterling Eccles 2009 model, the mattress is brilliant, very comfy! because of the mattress thickness we have to use king size sheets with a double duvet, that because i've put a memory topper mattress on it and quilted mattress cover over for ultra luxury comfort, but tbh it dosn't need all that.
The hydrolic bed lifts easily and has lots of storage under.
The only downside to a fixed side bed is my hubby has to climb over to get in other than that its perfect!
When we 1st bought the Sterling we looked at other makes with the same layout and found some fixed bed models to have flimsy mattress's. Best way is go to dealers and test all the fix beds out ;-)
Some caravan dealers ask for vans to made to a slightly different spec,eg interiors or decals.
These are then given a different names and called limited editions.
I had an Eldiss "Kensington" at one time(until some one thought they had a greater need than me) this was a deviation of a standard model but with different interior finish.
Fixed bed every time since then. The only thing to consider, if it is important to you, is which side of the bed you and OH prefer and who gets the outside lane.
------------- Just saying
If all is not lost where is it then?
We are on our first fixed bed caravan. I was concerned that the "lobbed off" bit of the fixed bed (and it seemed like a big bit was lobbed off on our Coachman Amara) would cause problems and also that the bed seemed small before we used it. But we have had a great sleep in the bed, yes a bit on the small side compared to what we're used to, but not making a great deal of difference to our comfort. Verdict! A fixed bed every time!
We have just picked -up our brand new Bailey unicorn 2 Valencia yesterday,it has the fixed bed and a large end bathroom.we are off local in the next few days to test it all out.we can not wait.the bed is more comfy than what have indoors.Hope to take her to the highlands later this year.
