Just wondered if anyone could help, My caravan came with the alko wheel lock, however whilst using it from last summer i started finding it hard to screw in then noticed some iron filings and noticed some of the thread had stripped which eventually meant that it would not screw in properly. I was careful when putting it in so as not to ruin thread but it seems to have happened anyway. Also the actual lock barrel was a bit stuck in the lock after winter and I could not get it out,After spraying lubricant into it and fiddling about I eventually got it out just as I was about to panic a bit.
I have contacted the people who make them and they have made me a new bolt and locking bolt (very good of them I thought) I have just received them back and wondered if anyone else has had these problems and how they were overcome as I dont want to ruin another bolt and the lock getting stuck in the lock body was a bit of a worry,

Make sure tjhe wheel is exactly lined up. If it is a bit tight, it may not be perfectly aligned and wear the thread. Possibly a small amount of grease on the bolt too.

I had trouble when I first got the alko lock which required the receiver being re tapped since then the lock has fitted with ease.

Just make sure the yellow cap is fitted tight to avoid any crap getting into the threads.

As per the last post, prevention is better than cure.
Ensure that the yellow cap is fitted when the lock isn't, and a small amount of anti seize copper grease on the thread will help no end.

Thanks for the replies, have any of you had a problem with the lock getting a bit stuck when lock is in place for a long time ie in storage over winter thanks Terry

Mine doesn't stay on that long as van always in use, but I would put either a fine film of grease on it or a touch of 3in1.

A very fine coating of copper grease on mine too, seems to do the trick. However, it is so easy to try and tighten it up cross-theaded, especially from new. If increased resistance is felt before fully tight undo it again before any damage to the threads is done and try again. It gets easier as they 'bed-in' with use.

I screw mine in by hand, it runs easily enough so I don't use the brace.
I would avoid any grease as it will attract dust and grit.
The right sort of product is a "dry" lubricant; I would personally use graphite dust available from specialist locksmith shops. This should also be ideal for lubricating the lock itself.

I think I will give the graphite powder a try as the service manager at ebor caravans mentioned that was recommended when I mentioned this to him.
I just wondered if you use a dry powder as its outside is it affected by moisture as it is sure to come in contact with it being under a caravan, thanks Terry.
